Los Remedios-Picasat SCA is a multi-sector agri-food cooperative. Among other activities, it seeks to give value to the productions from its partners' livestock farms., through the production and marketing of the different species existing on the farms of its ranchers.

The Cooperative brings together ranchers of different productions: beef beef, sheep, goat and, mainly, iberian pig. The farms are located mainly in the mountains of Cádiz, covering ranchers from the entire province of Cádiz, Seville and Malaga.

Most farms are closely linked to the land, making use of natural resources and living in spaces of high ecological value such as the natural parks of the “Sierra de Grazalema” and “Los Alcornocales”. Many of them are in an “ecological” regime., obtaining sustainable and high quality productions.

Los Remedios-Picasat has a livestock center in the “Los Gredales” Agri-Food Complex, located in Olvera, where the majority of facilities are located for the management of the different livestock activities that we develop.

Bovine

This section is made up of some 120 beef cattle farmers, which have the facilities that the Cooperative has to take a step in the value chain and be able to feed their calves jointly in the two existing community feedlots..

Farmers provide pasture calves 200 kg and 6 months old approximately, managing their bait until they reach their slaughter weight to be marketed jointly.

We have a feedlot located in Olvera and another in Alcalá de los Gazules. Both have a capacity of approximately 1000 calves, baiting in their facilities some 3000 heads per year. The main breeds managed are Retinta, Limousin, Charolais in purity and its crosses.

The basis of this activity is none other than to make available to our partners the necessary means to carry out the baiting of their calves., producing quality and homogeneous animals that are marketed together.

Sheep and goats

This section is made up of some 200 meat sheep farmers. There is a lamb typing and fattening center located at the Olvera facilities.. The capacity of this center is about 2.000 lambs, producing some 25.000 heads per year.

Within the section there are two operating models. On the one hand, the ranchers who use the facilities as a typing center, having fattened the animals on their farms and provided the lamb ready for marketing.

On the other hand, there are farmers who use the facilities as a feedlot itself and provide lambs of between 14 y 20 kg to be fattened and marketed.

There is no clearly defined breed that predominates in the area, although the Segureña breed is increasingly becoming established as a genetic base on farms.

Los Remedios-Picasat has its own collection of goat milk, coming from various routes. Annually we exceed 3,5 million liters. This milk is marketed through the DCOOP Group along with others 7 cooperatives, totaling an annual volume of more than 50 Millions of liters.

Porcine

The Olvera area is an important producer of Iberian piglets, although without much character for the bait. The Cooperative, in its desire to improve the value chain, It has feedlots for the piglets of livestock partners who wish to do so..

At the “Los Gredales” livestock center in Olvera we have facilities for pigs of about 1.000 places. Depending on demand and market circumstances, it is decided to have another integrated feedlot., thus being able to expand the bait capacity.

Farmers who choose to raise Iberian pigs in their facilities can market their production jointly with the existing animals in cooperative feedlots.. In recent years the Cooperative's bait production has been about 6.000 pigs per year.

In addition to producing and marketing the livestock productions of our partners, The social nature of the Cooperative leads us to provide any other service that is requested of us., trying to provide the maximum possible healthcare coverage.

So, we provide farmers with the supplies they need, working with them on aspects such as animal nutrition, the improvement of farms or advice on the most suitable production techniques.
